Why I have written, published ADOPTED!

Often there is a misconception about “shelter” cats. These misconceptions vary widely, the worst being that these cats are perceived as less desirable. Something is wrong with them. Nothing could be further from the truth!

I am a long time volunteer  to date at the Richmond SPCA (Virginia). After each visit, I post a “Steve’s Richmond SPCA Cat of the Week” photo on my personal Facebook page. These postings generate favorable responses - a testimony to each cat’s specific beauty and individuality.

Each photograph is my attempt to capture the essence of the cat as she/he looks at me. It results in a connection between me and the cat. And while one cat may remind someone of a similar cat, there are no two cats alike! Shelter cats are no different from other cats. Each cat’s unique markings make it a part of the mystery of the world’s natural order.

I present you 26 cats from my photo collection to enjoy and share. Each cat was given a name upon arriving at the Richmond SPCA. This is a good time to remind everyone that no cat comes to the Richmond SPCA by their choice. For various reasons in a cat’s life they may experience a bump in the road, resulting in a need for temporary shelter. They all anticipate their day of adoption hoping they’ll be loved and cared for, as they consistently give back their unconditional cat love.

I created ADOPTED! as a fund raiser to make money for the Richmond SPCA. I do so only because cats aren’t able to raise funds on their own. (They would if they could!)

All profit from your purchase of this book is donated directly to the Richmond SPCA.

On behalf of all the adopted cats and those waiting for their turn, we thank you!
